The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) announced on March 3, 2014, that Carnegie Science Center is one of 30 finalists selected from among more than 100 nominations nationwide. The National Medal, the nation’s highest honor conferred on museums and libraries for service to the community, will be celebrating its 20th year of saluting institutions that make a difference for individuals, families, and communities. Finalists are chosen based on their significant and exceptional contributions to their communities. Carnegie Science Center previously won the IMLS Medal in 2003.
The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) is the primary source of federal support for the nation’s 123,000 libraries and 17,500 museums. Its mission is to inspire libraries and museums to advance innovation, lifelong learning, and cultural and civic engagement.
IMLS is encouraging community members who have visited Carnegie Science Center to share their story on the IMLS Facebook page and learn more about how these institutions make an impact.
